I want to share a quick story of HOPE, FAITH, RECOVERY, AND PROGRESS. It is also a story of exactly how the OVER House
works! On December 23, 2015 I was at my wits end and considering giving up again. I prayed, and called Roger Milton. He
dropped what he was doing and picked me up at the Gold's Building downtown. We then went to the OVER House, where I have
lived since that night. In the 5 months I have lived at the OVER House I have seen the promises of the AA big book text coming
true in my life. I have maintained sobriety, mentored others, and achieved personal growth. Most notably I am now blessed
to be on the board for the OVER House, and have earned my state certification from the Department of Health and Human Services
as a Certified Peer Support and Wellness Specialist.
On May 8th, I was honored to give a friend of mine from high school his 14 year medallion! That started a series of blessings,
all of which have happened since that day. I decided to ask my friend to be my new AA sponsor to which he agreed. Then,
he asked if I would like to come work for him in Sioux City, Iowa on a large construction project he is managing for Brester
Construction. I got approval from my Probation Officer to live in Sioux City during the week while at work. My new sponsor
then had another proposition for me: Live on his land outside of Hickman, NE during the weekends when we aren't working.
I am absolutely SO THRILLED about this, because I will be able to do something I have not been able to do for over a year
now-- HAVE UNSUPERVISED VISITATIONS WITH MY 4 CHILDREN!
All of these prayers have been answered because the OVER House gave me a place to stay without stress, so that I could
focus on RECOVERY and my relationship with GOD. I would not be where I am today without the efforts of all the wonderful
persons I have met through OPERATION VETERANS ENCOURAGING RECOVERY! Thank you to all of you. My heart is filled with gratitude!
All of this means that I will be leaving the OVER House to embark on my new life. I feel successful again. I feel happy
again. It is the first time I have been happy in a very long time! I look forward to continuing on the board and furthering
the mission of helping other Veterans get back to living life! GOD BLESS us in this mission!
